The role of dissolved oxygen not only provides the formation of activated sludge, but also provides the oxidation of cell materials themselves and the metabolism of microorganisms to oxidize and decompose organic matter. In the activated sludge method for treating industrial wastewater, the dissolved oxygen in the aeration zone is generally controlled at 2~4 mg/L.
