When the dissolved oxygen level is above 5 mg/L, fish food intake is normal; when the dissolved oxygen level drops to 4 mg/L, the fish food intake drops by 13%; when the dissolved oxygen level drops to 2 mg/L, the fish food intake drops by 54% , some fish have difficulty surviving; when it drops to 1 mg/L, fish stop eating and most fish cannot survive. Sufficient dissolved oxygen in the pool can improve the living environment for fish habitats and reduce the concentration of toxic substances such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, and hydrogen sulfide. But it’s not that the higher the dissolved oxygen in the water, the better. When the dissolved oxygen saturation in the pool water reaches more than 150% and the dissolved oxygen content reaches more than 14.4 mg/L, fish bubble disease is easily caused. Therefore, appropriate dissolved oxygen is very important for the survival, growth and feed utilization of farmed fish. So how to monitor dissolved oxygen in aquaculture water quality? Causes of insufficient dissolved oxygen

1. High temperature: The solubility of oxygen in water decreases as the water temperature increases. For example, at an atmospheric pressure, when the water temperature rises from 10°C to 35°C, the solubility of oxygen in the air in pure water can decrease from 11.27mg/L. to 6.93 mg/L. High temperature will cause a decrease in dissolved oxygen in the water body. In addition, the increased oxygen consumption of aquatic animals and other organisms at high temperatures is also an important reason.
2. The breeding density is too high: the respiration of many organisms in the water body increases, and the oxygen consumption of organisms also increases.
3. Decomposition of organic matter: The more organic matter there is, the more active the bacteria are. This process usually consumes a large amount of oxygen, so it is easy to cause hypoxia.
4. Oxidation of inorganic substances: When inorganic substances such as hydrogen sulfide and nitrite are present in the water, oxidation will occur and consume a large amount of dissolved oxygen.
